Kallang River!
 .jpg) In the past,the original permanent resident of Singapore,lives in the swamps at the mouth of the Kallang River,they fish from their boat and seldom venture out of the open sea.In the early days,the Bugis trader from Sulawesi unloaded their cargoes and spices tortoise shell,gold dust and slaves from their palari.these sailing boats were a common sight off the sea front even up to the 1960s.After returning from the trip,we took down the records on the quality of water. Here are the record of the water quality at Kallang river: Air temperature ----- 29.0 degrees celsius Water temperature ----- 31.9 degrees celsius pH ----- 8.3 pH Dissolved oxygen ----- 14.1 mg/L Turbidity ----- 68.8 NTU Salinity ----- 1.109 dS/m We found out that the record had shown that the water was not really clean.We noticed that there was lots of plants ,stones ans sand at the riverbank.In the river,we saw many species of fishes.We realised that the water was quite polluted due to the littering of unwanted things into the river and the nearby restaurant giving out sewage into the river.Many activies like canoeing,kayaking and dragonboating were taking place on the river. |
