3 measurement to conserve the river!
Jurong Lake!
Jurong Lake is a freshwater lake and reservoir and is located in the western region of Singapore formed with the damming of Sungei Jurong further down. This lake serve as a reservoir contributing to the water supply of the country. Fishing or swimming in the lake is illegal for cleanliness reason. The water is noted to be greenish in colour during dry weather and a murky brown after a downpour. Here are the records that we have taken: Air temperature ----- 29.5 degrees celsius Water temperature ----- 3.0 degrees celsius pH ----- 6.1 pH Dissolved oxygen ----- 12.3 mg/L Turbidity ------ 56.3 NTU Salinity ----- 0.06 dS/m We found out that the water was a little polluted due to the nearby factories giving out sewage without getting it treated first. There were grass, dead leaves and branches near the lake. Snail eggs and coconut husks can be seen in the water and around the lake. Little fishes was swimming in the water and i think that this is cause because of the temperature that was good the how polluted the water is.
These are the pictures taken near Kallang River!
Kallang River!
In the past, the original permanent resident of Singapore, lives in the swamps at the mouth of the Kallang River, they fish from their boat and seldom venture out of the open sea.In the early days, the Bugis trader from Sulawesi unloaded their cargoes and spices tortoise shell, gold dust and slaves from their palari.these sailing boats were a common sight off the sea front even up to the 1960s. After returning from the trip,we took down the records on the quality of water. Here are the record of the water quality at Kallang river: Air temperature ----- 29.0 degrees celsius Water temperature ----- 31.9 degrees celsius pH ----- 8.3 pH Dissolved oxygen ----- 14.1 mg/L Turbidity ----- 68.8 NTU Salinity ----- 1.109 dS/m We found out that the record had shown that the water was not really clean. We noticed that there was lots of plants ,stones ans sand at the riverbank. In the river,we saw many species of fishes. We realised that the water was quite polluted due to the littering of unwanted things into the river and the nearby restaurant giving out sewage into the river. Many activies like canoeing, kayaking and dragonboating were taking place on the river. |
